Cuba Libre, BGC | Foodventure

One of my go-to places here in Manila would be in Bonifacio Global City. It is the BEST place to hangout be it strolling, shopping, eating, fun… all packed in one place! Last night, my best friend, Cliff and I stumbled upon a new concept restaurant from the Tasteless Group – Cuba Libre… Since we haven’t tried it before (we were kind of curious).

Upon walking in we were greeted by a friendly waiter who sat us right away. The interior is much larger than it seems. The setup is similar to a canteen – You choose your main, a rice and a side. Prices are broken down according to your choices.

Since it’s our first time in Cuba Libre, we asked the waiter for recommendations which he happily explained how to order and why they’re best sellers.

Albóndigas Criollas (220.00 php) or  Creole meatballs is a meatball dish with a tomato-based sauce. The meatballs are flavored with various herbs and spices including cilantro. I LOVE IT!

Tostones (50.00 php). The waiter said it’s made from green bananas and they’ve double fried it. I heard that technique is a thing in Cuba.

Arroz Amarillo (40.00 php) or Yellow Rice. The Creole meatballs kind of overpowered the taste of the rice so I couldn’t tell. It did smell good.

Pollo Frito Cubano (275.00 php) or white rum and lime-marinated creole friend chicken. Unlike the usual, it has a crunchy exterior and a subtle tang from lime and white rum.

Moros y Cristianos (40.00 php) or Rice and Beans. I apologize but I am not a fan of beans so I didn’t try it. Cliff said it was “okay”.

Croquetas de Malanga (50.00 php) or Purple taro and pumpkin fritters. Cliff literally dumped 2 pieces of it on my plate. These were deep-fried with a crunchy shell and a mushy/soft center.

Te Helado de Guayaba (60.00 php) or Guava Iced Tea. THIS! It’s very refreshing and pairs so well with the food. It’s not too sweet and I can tell it’s not one of those powdered iced tea.

Limonada con Yerbabuena (60.00 php) or Minted Lemonade. I love that it the minty flavor of the drink doesn’t overpower the lemon. It’s just right.

The crews were friendly and very accommodating. They’re also prompt when we asked for assistance.

I enjoyed my food so much. I am definitely going back to get another Creole Meatballs. I love it! Masitas De Puerco En Adobo is another best seller so I might also try that in the future.

Bon appétit mon chéri!
